Rachel Hines is the Public Archaeologist for the Northwest Region of the Florida Public
Archaeology Network (FPAN). She is passionate about engaging communities with their
local cultural resources in meaningful ways. She is interested in archaeology’s potential
to tell unwritten stories, adding new perspectives to our understanding of the past.

Prior to joining FPAN, Rachel worked as an archaeologist across the country for the
National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service while developing her skills in research,
outreach, and interpretation in museum and university settings. Most recently, she
worked as the first Public Outreach Coordinator for the University of South Alabama
(USA) Center for Archaeological Studies, where she developed an outreach program
from scratch for the I-10 Mobile River Bridge Archaeology Project.

Rachel also taught Museum Studies courses and Field School as an adjunct at USA. In
addition to her passion for sharing archaeological resources with public audiences, she
enjoys finding ways to connect students with the professional community. She has a
Master of Arts in Historical Archaeology from the University of West Florida and a
Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota.
